The SPARC Lab is conducting one of the first large-scale studies of relationship processes within online camming platforms. Using data collected directly from LiveJasmin—one of the world’s most popular camming websites—we surveyed both camming members (viewers) and models, allowing us to examine these relationships from both sides of the interaction.
Our work challenges the assumption that camming relationships are purely transactional. Across multiple ongoing manuscripts, we examine how intimacy, commitment, sexual desire, and emotional investment emerge within digitally mediated, economically structured relationships.
Current projects using this dataset include:
-
Investment Processes in Camming Relationships
Drawing on the Investment Model of Commitment, this project examines how satisfaction, investment size, quality of alternatives, and intimacy predict commitment to camming partners. This work was recently featured in a keynote presentation at the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health (ISSWSH). -
Mate Value Discrepancies and Desire
This study examines how perceived mate value differences between members and models shape sexual desire, emotional investment, and relational expectations within camming relationships. -
Sexual Ideals in Commercial Intimacy
This project explores how sexual ideals are formed, negotiated, and fulfilled within camming interactions, and how unmet ideals may influence satisfaction and continued engagement.

Our research is unique in that it captures data from both members and models, allowing us to examine dyadic and structural processes within a commercially scaffolded relational space. We are particularly interested in how intimacy and economic exchange coexist, and how technology reshapes modern romantic and sexual dynamics.
We plan to continue expanding this line of work and welcome future collaborations with camming platforms, members, and models who are interested in advancing scientific understanding of digital intimacy.
